Necklace by Karen Gilbert of silver, stainless steel, pyrex.

Karen Gilbert

CONTEMPORARY ALTERNATIVE
Healdsburg, CA

Karen Gilbert is noted for using glass as the primary medium in her jewelry, mostly using pyrex as a more durable form of glass. She also uses a variety of other unusual materials, such as geodes and semiprecious stones made into small beads, and fabric. Her work utilizes repetitive elements to build a more complex form, as is seen in this pendant. She also co-owns Gallery Lulo in Healdsburg, California, which she shares with Dutch artist Anne-Kathrine Schjerbeck. The gallery’s name comes from a portmanteau of their sons’ names.
