Bracelet by Michael Slim (Navajo) of sterling silver; stamped.

Michael Slim

NATIVE AMERICAN
Albuquerque, NM

This simple bracelet by Michael Slim was a favorite of my mother’s. Its excellent construction makes it durable and gives it a comfortable heft to it without being too heavy. She wore it often, and it was the perfect accent to many of her ensembles. This bracelet carries a secret, though; on the inside, Slim stamped paw and hoof tracks, which are invisible to all but the owner. Little details like these are common to Native American jewelry, pioneered by Charles Loloma. The spiral, a universal symbol of life, bore important meaning to Carolyn, representing the journey outwards from birth.
