The late Rita Okrent was both a dealer of beads and a very talented necklace designer who was good friends with both Carolyn Benesh and Robert Liu. The large wave of imported beads from Africa was the impetus for Benesh and Liu to start the Bead Journal, helped by a small grant from his major professor, Boyd Walker. Rita’s daughter Jocelyne now carries on the family business.
