Silver Navajo Naja Necklace

NATIVE AMERICAN
Navajo

Naja pendant necklace with crosses is a familiar and classic type of Navajo necklace; tufa-cast for the naja pendant, possibly also the crosses, which were then additionally worked, the rest fabricated, all of silver. This may be a vintage example, from the 1930s-1940s. The naja form may have been derived from the Moors, and was adopted by the Navajo into their own visual vocabulary.
